Purchasing a Print
To purchase a print, please contact me via email:
or by phone: (514) 620-6167 to tell me what print you are interested in, and to arrange for payment. PayPal is the preferred method of payment.
The framing option prices include the purchase price of the print. So, for example, an 8" x 12" image printed on archival matte paper and framed with an art gallery frame, using archival mat and mounting, is $250, plus S&H.
Please note that if you select to purchase an Art Gallery frame, an extra 7-10 days is required to have it have it professionally framed.
Shipping
All prints, whether framed or not, are shipped via Canada Post Xpresspost. Depending on your shipping address, this takes between 3 and 10 business day to reach destination.
You will be charged the approximate amount of the shipment, as per the online Canada Post rate tables, plus a few dollars for the packaging materials. The total shipping charge should be in the $20 - $45 range for a framed print, and $10 to $15 for an unframed one. The shipping and handling prices marked with an * indicate average shipping costs.
About The Printing Process
All prints up to 12” x 18” are made on an Epson R2400 using original pigment-based Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks. These are "archival" quality inks.
About The Paper
Archival Matte Paper
The archival matte paper used is called Red River Dourian Art, and is fabricated by a German mill called Hahnemühle. This is a very high quality, thick, 100% cotton paper that reproduces sharp detail, bright colors, and beautiful contrast. It features a natural white color and semi-smooth finish. This paper contains no acid, lignin, or optical brighteners (see note), and is considered an “archival” quality paper. Its longevity rating is in the 100-200 year range when properly framed and mounted, and not exposed to direct sunlight.
A custom paper profile was made for this paper on my Epson R2400 printer, in order to ensure the highest possible color reproduction fidelity.
Because of the nature of this paper, it is somewhat fragile, and needs to be handled with care in order to avoid scuffing and flaking. For this reason, I'd recommend that you purchase a framed print on this paper, as the frame will protect the print.
This paper is very expensive, and uses more ink than a “normal” photo paper, thereby explaining the higher price of a print created on it.
A note about optical brighteners: according to Hahnemühle, this paper contains no optical brighteners in the paper coating, but the paper base may have very small amounts of optical brighteners to balance the shade of the stock. This small amount of optical brighteners will not affect the print life or the life/shade of the paper in any way.
Regular Photo Paper
The semi-gloss photo paper used for prints up to 12” x 18” is the InkJet Art Micro Ceramic Luster. This is a “Traditional E-Surface” paper, or what most people will know as “typical color photo paper”. It is a lightly textured paper of medium thickness, has a has a semi-glossy luster fnish, and produces highly saturated colors. Its longevity rating is in the 50-70 year range when properly framed and mounted, and not exposed to direct sunlight.
For paper sizes above 12” x 18”, the prints are created by a 3rd party printing service. The paper used is the Kodak Professional Portra Endura, and has a longevity rating of about 100 years, when properly framed and mounted, and not exposed to direct sunlight.
About Longevity Ratings
All ratings are approximate and only applicable when the print is mounted using archival-grade materials (backing, mat, tape, brackets) and displayed behind UV glass.
About the Framing
The images are professionally mounted and framed at an art gallery that offers framing services. Each print is individually framed to order, and the mat and frame colors and styles are chosen according to the image purchased. Typical mat sizes are approximately 3” for 8” x 10” and 8” x 12” prints, and 4” for 12” x 18” prints. The matting is usually asymmetrical, with an extra ½” of mat on the bottom, to better "balance" the image in the frame.
Some framings will have double mats – this depends on the image itself, the mat color options, and the size of the prints. No expenses are barred – each print is beautifully and uniquely framed using top quality materials. These frames are expensive, but are the best money can buy, and are really a great value.
The "Stock" frames available for the smaller prints are purchase in bulk online. These are pleasing frames, and look very good for the price. The mats are usually cream/off-white, and the frames are either natural wood or satin black wood. There are no "archival" options for these frames.
Here are three sample of prints framed at the art gallery store - these are photographs of the actual framed prints.
